Veluwe – The green Treasury

The Veluwe is considered the green treasure of the Netherlands. The Hoge Veluwe National Park was founded at the beginning of the twentieth century by the Kröller-Müller family and is part of the cultural heritage of the Netherlands. The Park is characterized by a wide variety of landscapes such as drifting sand, moors, grass plains, forests and a wide variety of plant and animal species.

Hoge Veluwe

The park covers 5,500 hectares of forest, heaths, grass plains and sand drifts and is the habitat of deer, mouflons and wild boars.
You can discover all the landscapes on foot or on a free white bicycle. The free white bicycles (1,800 in total) are located at the 3 entrances to the park, at the visitor center and at the museum.

Tip! Become online wildlife spotter for the Park.

Jachthuis Sint Hubertus

Jachthuis Sint Hubertus is the former country-side residence of the Kröller-Müller family. This “total work of art” by architect Berlage is one of the most important monuments of the Netherlands. The ‘Jachthuis’ is only accessible with a guided tour.

Tip! Make your reservation for the tour online or at one of the three entrances of the Park.

Veluwezoom

Veluwezoom National Park covers over 5,000 hectares and is part of the Veluwe, a large, contiguous nature reserve. Here you will find almost untouched nature in a hilly landscape with beautiful views. For example, on the ‘Posbank’, you can see Germany when the weather is good.

Tip! If you want to know more about animal tracks then join a guide on a walk.

Castle ‘Het Oude Loo

Not many people know that there is a beautiful Palace Park behind Palace ‘Het Loo’. The Royal family used to spend a lot of their free time in this park. Today, the 15th-century hunting lodge is used as an outdoor and guesthouse.

Tip! A large part of the Palace Park is open to the public only two months a year (April and May).

Castle Doorwerth

The characteristic Doorwerth Castle is located in the northern floodplains of the Rhine against the wooded hills of the Veluwezoom. Doorwerth was built as a wooden castle and eventually becomes a stone castle complex with a main castle and some buildings.

Tip! From the castle there are many beautiful walking or cycling paths along the Rhine river.
